There are four ways to watch YouTube with friends at the same time. Which one is best depends on whether you want to stay on YouTube itself, whether anyone's on a phone, and whether your group already lives on Discord.

1. A sync extension (stay on YouTube)
Everyone watches on youtube.com with their own account, and the extension keeps play, pause and timestamps in step.
Install
Everyone adds Watch Party to desktop Chrome (free).Open the video
The host opens any YouTube video.Create a party
Click the icon, press Create Watch Party, share the room code.Watch and talk
Friends paste the code into Paste room ID. Start the video call in the side panel.
Pros: your own account and settings, captions and quality as usual, free video call. Cons: desktop Chrome only.
2. Room sites: paste a link
Sites like Watch2Gether give you a room with a shared, synchronized player. You paste YouTube links into it and everyone watches there.
Pros: nothing to install, works in mobile browsers, great for queueing lots of short videos. Cons: you watch in their player rather than on YouTube with your own account.
3. Discord activities
If your group is already in a Discord voice channel, Discord's watch-together activity can play YouTube for everyone in the channel.
Pros: no new app for Discord groups. Cons: only works inside Discord.
4. Screen sharing
Share a YouTube tab on any call. Everyone else gets a compressed copy, so it's fine for one short clip and tiring for anything long. See why.
