We make a different watch party extension, so this isn't official Teleparty support. These fixes come from how browser watch party extensions work in general and solve most problems. For account or billing issues, contact Teleparty directly.
Start with the symptom you're seeing.
The Teleparty icon is grey, missing, or does nothing
- Open a video page first. The extension only becomes active on a supported video page, not on the service's home screen.
- Refresh the page after opening it. If the page loaded before the extension was ready, it won't connect.
- Pin the extension: click the puzzle icon in the toolbar and pin it.
- Check it's enabled in your browser's extensions page, and update the browser.
- Use a supported desktop browser. Teleparty lists Chrome, Edge and Safari.
Your friend can't join the party
- They need the extension installed in a supported desktop browser
- They must be signed in to the same streaming service with access to the title
- The title has to be available in their country
- Send a fresh party link and have them open it in the same browser where the extension is installed
The video is out of sync
- Everyone refreshes the video page and rejoins.
- Check everyone is on exactly the same episode.
- Let a slow connection buffer for a few seconds, or lower the video quality in the service's settings.
- Turn off other video or ad extensions that change the player, then refresh.
The same checks fix most sync problems in any tool: see watch party not syncing.
It doesn't work on Disney+, Prime Video or Hulu
Teleparty's own guides use the same flow on each service: open the video page, click the TP button, share the party link. Everyone needs access to the title on their own account, in their region. If that's all in place, try the fixes for your service.
Disney+
- Open the episode or movie page and let it start playing before you click the TP button
- Confirm everyone is signed in to Disney+ and can play the same title in their country
- Refresh the page if the TP button does nothing, then send a fresh link
Prime Video
- Make sure everyone can play the title: included with Prime for some people may be rent or buy for others, or unavailable in their region
- Start from the video page itself, not the Prime Video home or search page
- Refresh after installing or updating the extension, then restart the party
Hulu
- Everyone needs their own Hulu account with access to the title
- Start the party from the playing video, and have friends open the link in the browser where the extension is installed
- If the timing drifts, everyone refreshes and rejoins (see the sync fixes above)
Still stuck? Check the service is included in the plan you're on. Teleparty's free plan covers its free channels, and some services need Premium. The differences are explained in Teleparty free vs Premium.
There's no video chat
On Teleparty, voice and video chat are a Premium feature. The free plan has sync and text chat. More on how calls work, and your options, in Teleparty video call.
Want to try something else?
If you keep hitting problems, or you want to see each other without paying for it, Watch Party is a free alternative:
- Group video and voice calls on the free plan, plus chat and reactions
- Works on any site with a standard video player, not a fixed channel list
- No account needed for guests
- The trade-off: desktop Chrome only
See how it stacks up against every other option in Teleparty alternatives.
